Discover the Stillness Within

Caroline's Approach

I am a therapist who knows the healing and connective power of compassion and we will work and play together to grow your capacity to hold yourself (and therefore others) with compassion.  The beautiful thing about compassion is that it does not exclude other more fiery emotions like anger, anxiousness, shame, hopelessness.  Quite the contrary - when these uncomfortable states of mind and body are present we will go together to meet them, hold them tenderly and listen to the wisdom they offer.  Nothing that is arising in your mind/body/spirit/relational system is outside the scope of compassion.  Nothing.  It is the fierce compassion inherent within you that travels to the dark corners of your psyche and holds you tenderly as you meet yourself, your Being - maybe for the first time.

Together we discover the stillness within you.  Discovering the stillness  doesn’t mean that your life will become still or that you will suddenly handle life without emotion, it's that you will discover the oasis within that sustains you.  I have seen this happen countless times for people of all walks of life - it can happen for you as well.

Meet Caroline Vernon

I am a Licensed Counselor in South Dakota and Montana and I see individuals and couples virtually who are in some way dissatisfied with how they relate to themselves. I see people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and compulsions. I work with people who are suffering with the effects of trauma sometimes due to the religious community they have been involved with.   Many times my clients are people who are experiencing challenges in their relationships.

As I reflect back, I see a theme with my educational background and training:  listen deeply and without judgment.  At Naropa University, where I earned a Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy we were trained to find the health not the pathology in a person’s system. Extensive trauma training has taught me to look for and highlight the adaptations a person has had to make in the face of overwhelming stress. Yoga has invited me to listen deeply to the body - to both the wisdom and the pain that is carried in our physical being.  Internal Family Systems supports the truth that many of us have known for some time:  that who we really are is bigger, more vast than what we are currently experiencing. Dream work is a process involving deep curiosity and a willingness to stay in the bewilderment to find themes that relate to your life. With all of these modalities and trainings we are really doing one thing: companioning your essence as you walk yourself home.
